Public Invited to Bike/Pedestrian Open House

January 11, 2016 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - WALSENBURG – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is hosting an open house next week to discuss possible improvements to make the city more bike and pedestrian friendly.

It will be held on Wednesday, January 20, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Huerfano County Community Center in Walsenburg, 928 Russel Street.  A brief presentation will be followed by an informal open house with project displays and an opportunity to meet and ask questions of the project team.

The study is evaluating bicycle and pedestrian upgrades to:

  • U.S. 160 between Main Street and Birch Avenue
  • U.S. 160 between Main Street and Russell Avenue
  • U.S. 85/87 (Walsen Avenue) between Willow and 7thStreet

“This is a good opportunity for residents to see what’s planned to improve accessibility for pedestrians and bicyclists through town,” said CDOT Bicycle, Pedestrian and Scenic Byways Manager Betsy Jacobsen.  “In addition to increased access, we’re also looking at how we can create a safer and more efficient travel corridor for all users, not just for non-motorized travelers.”

Construction is expected to begin in fall 2016 or spring 2017.
