Work to be Suspended for Winter on I-70 bridge in Eagle County

November 13, 2015 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Crews will work this weekend to remove project detour.

EAGLE COUNTY — Work on a bridge project that has been underway this season since March 30 will be suspended for the winter, following work this weekend to remove the detour. This Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) project has been repairing and rehabilitating both the eastbound and westbound bridge structures located at Mile Point (MP) 168.7, where I-70 crosses over both the Eagle River and US 6 in Eagle-Vail. More specifically, work includes girder repair, bridge deck repair and re-paving and reinforcing current structures.

WEEKEND TRAVEL IMPACTS: To enable crews to remove the temporary project detour prior to next week’s anticipated storm, there will be lane closures on Saturday and Sunday, likely from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., through the project work zone. Motorists are encouraged to use US 6 as an alternate route; there will be lane closures on I-70 near MP 168.7, both east and westbound. The bike path adjacent to westbound US 6 may be closed intermittently, please pay attention to flaggers situated on the project.

Work is expected to resume on the project in March or April of 2016 (weather dependent) and is scheduled for completion before July 2016. Structures, Inc. of Englewood, Colorado is the contractor for this $8.1 million project.
