Night Closures at I-25/Fillmore after Holiday Weekend

November 24, 2015 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close Interstate 25 at Fillmore Street for two nights next week for bridge work above the highway.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, and Tuesday, Dec. 1, I-25 will be closed at Fillmore Street for the installation of concrete girders.  All northbound and southbound traffic will use the Fillmore on- and off-ramps to detour around the site.

During this time, crews will set bridge girders for the eastbound Fillmore Street bridge structure over the interstate, marking another major milestone on the project. These closures will be in place to ensure the safety of the construction crew and the traveling public. Each girder weighs approximately 180,000 pounds — more than the weight of two semi trucks and their trailers combined.

I-25 is scheduled to reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. both days.

Eastbound and westbound Fillmore Street also will be closed at I-25 from 8 p.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists will be able to turn right off the ramps, but will not left onto Fillmore Street. Delays of up to 15 minutes can be expected.  A signed detour will direct motorists around the closed segment of Fillmore, utilizing the Garden of the Gods and Fontanero interchanges.

Following placement of the bridge girders, crews will install bridge deck panels from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, and Thursday, Dec. 3.  During this time, westbound Fillmore Street will be closed, with eastbound remaining open to traffic.  Intermittent lane closures on northbound and southbound I-25 also can be expected.

All work is weather permitting.

The bridge work is part of a CDOT interchange reconstruction project, which is scheduled for completion by summer 2016.
