Work Set to Start on I-25 Bridge near Larkspur
DOUGLAS COUNTY — The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin work on Friday, Nov. 6, to repair the northbound Interstate 25 bridge over Upper Lake Gulch Road, just east of Larkspur.
Work includes milling, erosion control, upgrading the bridge surface, and repairs to the deck and piers, increasing the structure’s life expectancy and reducing maintenance costs, including pothole repairs.
The $908,000 project was awarded to Structures, Inc., of Englewood, Colo. It is scheduled for completion in spring 2016.
TRAVEL IMPACTS: Drivers can expect lane shifts, a reduced 45 mph speed limit and possible delays through the work zone:
- Friday, Nov. 6 through Tuesday, Nov. 10 – The right and left lanes of northbound I-25 will split, with the left lane remaining on the bridge and the right lane using the off- and on-ramp as a detour. EXPECT DELAYSduring most time periods, except during late evening and early morning hours. Please allot extra time to travel through this area.
o Traffic coming from Larkspur and wanting to access northbound I-25 need to go north on Spruce Mountain Road to the main Larkspur interchange. Access to southbound I-25 will be maintained on Upper Lake Gulch Road.
o Traffic slowing measures will be implemented on I-25, as needed, to ensure safety of vehicles traveling westbound on Upper Lake Gulch Road, east of I-25, who need to access northbound I-25 or cross the I-25 detour ramp into Larkspur. Anticipate longer wait times on Upper Lake Gulch Road.
- Friday, Nov. 13 & Saturday, Nov. 14 – Overnight, all northbound I-25 traffic will be detoured via the off- and on-ramps, allowing asphalt paving operations to take place on the bridge.
- Monday, Nov. 16 through Friday, Nov. 20 – Daytime, crews will be working under the Upper Lake Gulch Road Bridge; I-25 traffic will not be impacted. Flaggers will be directing and stopping traffic, as necessary, on Upper Lake Gulch Road.
