Single Day Closure of Highway 120 for Bridge Work

October 14, 2015 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - FREMONT COUNTY — State Highway 120 will be closed to through traffic for one day next week to allow placement of girders as part of a bridge replacement project.

Initial set-up for the work begins on Monday, Oct. 19.  Traffic delays up to 20 minutes can be expected that afternoon while a crane is set-up for the girder placement.

Beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 6 a.m., the highway will be closed to all traffic between SH 115 and the bridge site, about ½ mile.  It will remain closed until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

DETOUR: Drivers can access areas east of the bridge site by taking U.S. 50 to SH 120, east of Penrose, and then traveling west on SH 120.  L, M and R streets south from Penrose can also be used.

Tuesday’s operation is part of a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) project to replace an 83-year-old structure that is rated in poor condition and is functionally obsolete.  The new bridge, which crosses the Union Pacific Railroad, is scheduled to open to traffic in December 2015.
