Mount Evans Highway Closing for Season on Oct. 5

September 29, 2015 - Central/Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close Mount Evans Highway – State Highway 5 – from Echo Lake to the top of Mount Evans to vehicular traffic for the season on Monday, Oct. 5.

CDOT typically closes the five-mile segment from Summit Lake to the top of Mount Evans (14,264 feet) the day after Labor Day, per agreement with the U.S. Forest Service. Due to heavy spring snowfall and construction that delayed the opening CDOT will keep SH 5 open to the summit for an additional 27 days total this year.

SH 5 is scheduled to reopen for the summer season the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, weather permitting.
