Expect Narrow Lanes, Delays on Indiana Street under I-25
Work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 30, and continuing into late October.
While construction hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., motorists on Indiana Street can expect a reduction of the travel lanes to 11 feet that will remain in place 24/7 during the four-week period. Access to all nearby businesses, including the Pueblo Steel Mill, will be maintained. Traffic delays are expected and alternate routes are advised.
In addition, the phasing of the lead abatement on these bridges will require a single weekend special operation on Oct. 17 and 18. This will require traffic to be reduced to one-lane, with flaggers alternating traffic on Indiana between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
According to Scott Dalton, CDOT project manager, “Reducing the lanes will allow us to complete lead abatement on the I-25 bridges over Indiana as quickly as possible, but will likely result in delays on Indiana Street. We recommend people prepare ahead of time, and plan to take alternate routes during this time.”
The I-25 Ilex Street to City Center Drive project is the first project of the New Pueblo Freeway: the reconstruction of I-25 between City Center Drive (1st Street) and Ilex Street through downtown Pueblo. Construction includes upgrading a number of bridges south of downtown. The project began in July 2015, and is expected to be completed in late 2017. Normal work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with nighttime and weekend work as needed.
