Daytime Left Lane Closures on EB I-70, East of Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels
CLEAR CREEK COUNTY—Beginning Monday, Sept. 28, through Friday, Oct. 2, from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will install solar powered LED pavement markings on eastbound I-70 from mile markers 213 to 217, just east of the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels. Similar to those along I-70 at Floyd Hill (see picture attached), these solar pucks will greatly improve delineation along this dark stretch of roadway, ultimately improving safety on the mountain corridor.
"We're always looking at innovative ways to improve safety on Colorado roadways. After seeing much success and receiving positive feedback on the solar pucks on Floyd Hill, we want to implement them in another area that could use improved delineation along the corridor," said Paul Jesaitis. "We're trying to complete this project, along with several others on this stretch of roadway, before winter weather hits the mountains. We have a very limited window in which we can get work completed on the corridor and we're taking full advantage of warmer weather to do so."
The cost for these solar pucks is $75,000 and the project will complete in early October 2015.
