Colorado DOT Supports Call to Action
On Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 8 a.m., MDT, a Call to Action on Promoting Walking and Walkable Communities will be launched highlighting efforts towards improving walkability and reducing the existing health burden caused by inactivity.
“There are many benefits to walkable communities,” stated Betsy Jacobsen, CDOT’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator. “In addition to improving health, walkable communities have additional quality of life and economic benefits.”
CDOT has endorsed the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) design guides that encourage communities to look at various ways of becoming more walkable. Additionally, CDOT is currently reviewing its bicycle and pedestrian accommodation policy to ensure all modes are given consideration in projects.
