CDOT Resumes Preventative Bridge Maintenance Project in Region 5

September 18, 2015 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is beginning the next phase of a project in Region 5 spanning Archuleta, Dolores and La Plata Counties to conduct bridge deck repairs on multiple bridges, install waterproofing membrane, replace expansion devices, and resurface and re-stripe the roadway over those bridges.

GA Western Construction Co., is the contractor on this $2 million project.

Work on SH 172 and US 160 began on Monday, September 14, 2015, and is expected to last until mid-November, 2015. The work is expected to progress on the following schedule (please note, this schedule is likely to vary somewhat based on work items and/or weather impacts):

SEPT. 21 – DEC.:  Work will be underway concurrently on these structures

  • P-05-R on SH 172 (MP 19.49) over the Florida River north of Ignacio

    • Hours will be 8:30 a.m. until dusk, Monday through Friday

  • P-06-D on US 160 over the Los Pinos River, at the west edge of Bayfield (MP 102.4)

    • Hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

TRAVEL IMPACTS/WIDE LOAD RESTRICTIONS - Normal working hours and days are noted above. In special cases, these hours may be extended. Weekend work may also occur, if a need is determined. Motorists expect single-lane closures, with alternating traffic and lane shifts throughout the course of the project. The speed limit will be reduced during working hours to 35 mph.
