Rock Mitigation Work to Delay Traffic on Highway 50

August 4, 2015 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - The Colorado Department of Transportation begins rock mitigation operations on U.S. 50 in Bighorn Sheep Canyon tomorrow, Wednesday, August 5.

This site is about 15 miles west of Cañon City and 10 miles east of Cotopaxi.

Drivers can expect traffic stops up to 20 minutes from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Work continues on Thursday, August 6, during the same hours.  Then on Monday, August 10, rock mitigation work continues with a Monday through Thursday schedule, until August 27.

During this time period, additional sites will be targeted for mitigation along State Highways 96 and 115.  An advisory regarding the specific locations and traffic impacts will be distributed before work gets underway.

CDOT is removing loose rocks and debris from the slopes above U.S. 50 and other area highways that came loose during numerous rainstorms in the late spring and from the higher than average rainfall this summer.
