Highway Impacts for Today’s Pro Challenge
COPPER MOUNTAIN — Stage Three of the USA Pro Challenge is a 101 mile race from Copper Mountain to Aspen, impacting three state highways and 12,095 foot Independence Pass – the highest crossing of the state highway system.
SPECIFIC ROAD IMPACTS (Drivers should be prepared to stop at locations along the race route before and while racers and support vehicles pass by intersecting roadways)
- STATE: State Highway 91 south from Copper Mountain, U.S. 24 west and south from the Leadville area, SH 82 west over Independence Pass to Aspen.
- LOCAL/COUNTY: County Road 99 south, CR 9 west and CR 4 east around Turquoise Lake and 6th St. into Leadville.
Traffic impacts begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue until approximately5:30 p.m. The ramp from eastbound Interstate 70 to southbound SH 91 (Exit 195) will be closed from approximately 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A full closure of Independence Pass begins at 1 p.m. and continues until 5:30 p.m.

It includes information regarding road closure and opening times, anticipated delays, oversize and overweight restrictions, parking and camping information and links to host city websites. Please be aware that delay and closure times are estimates only and subject to change depending on the pace of the race, weather, and other unanticipated conditions.

Tomorrow’s Highway Impacts
Aug. 20/Stage 4/Aspen to Breckenridge: SH 82 east via Independence Pass to U.S. 24, Highway 24 south to Buena Vista area, U.S. 24/285 northeast to Antero Junction, U.S. 285 north to Fairplay, SH 9 north to Breckenridge. Impacts begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at approximately 4 p.m.
CDOT is distributing race information the morning of each stage, with any necessary updates regarding impacts to the state highway system.
