Pro Challenge Heads East

August 20, 2015 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Independence Pass – Climb Two.

ASPEN — Stage Four of the USA Pro Challenge travels crosses three mountain passes today, including a trip back over Independence Pass, on its 126 mile trek to Breckenridge.   

SPECIFIC ROAD IMPACTS (Drivers should be prepared to stop at locations along the race route before and while racers and support vehicles pass by intersecting roadways)

  • STATE: State Highway 82 east from Aspen over Independence Pass (12,095 feet) to U.S. 24, U.S. 24 south to Buena Vista/Johnson Village, U.S. 24/285 northeast over Trout Creek Pass (9,346) to Antero Junction, U.S. 285 north to Fairplay, SH 9 north over Hoosier Pass (11,541) into Breckenridge. 
  • LOCAL: Includes Moonstone Rd. and Boreas Pass Rd. through east Breckenridge. 

Traffic impacts begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until approximately4 p.m.  

PASS CLOSURES: Independence Pass closed westbound from 8:30 a.m. to noon; eastbound closed 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Northbound and southbound Hoosier Pass closed from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Please be aware that delay and closure times are estimates only and subject to change depending on the pace of the race, weather, and other unanticipated conditions.

Tomorrow’s Highway Impacts

Aug. 21/Stage 5/Breckenridge Individual Time Trial (Includes Women’s Stage One): Main Street, SH 9 to Coyne Valley Rd. Local roads through east Breckenridge, including Boreas Pass Rd.  Impacts begin at 9 a.m. and end at approximately 4 p.m. 

CDOT is distributing race information the morning of each stage, with any necessary updates regarding impacts to the state highway system.
