I-70 Off-Ramp to Havana Street to Close Tonight through Jan. 2016
This work was set to occur on Tuesday, Aug. 11, but was delayed by one day due to rain that occurred on Sunday, Aug. 9.
To safely facilitate the bridge demolition and ramp reconstruction, the eastbound I-70 off ramp to Havana Street will be completely closed to motorists and pedestrians. To ensure the safety of the traveling public, pedestrians, cyclists, and workers, the ramp will remain closed until late January 2016.
Phase I demolition work activities will primarily occur at night. Nighttime working hours are Sunday through Thursday, 7:00 p.m. to 5: 30 a.m. Motorists can expect a traffic shift on I-70. Traffic flow for both eastbound and westbound I-70 will be maintained with equal number of lanes open in each direction.
Access to businesses in the area will be maintained at all times and detour routes clearly identified. Special attention should be paid to the flaggers within the work zone.
Detour Routes: For northbound Havana Street, travel west on East 40th Avenue to Central Park Boulevard; take Central Park Boulevard north to Northfield/47th Avenue; travel east on E. 47th Avenue back to Havana Street.
For southbound Havana Street, travel west on E. 47th Avenue to Central Park Boulevard; south to Central Park Boulevard to E. 40th Avenue; travel east on East 40th Avenue to Havana Street.
This $25 million project includes interchange ramp improvements, lighting upgrades, new asphalt paving, retaining walls, concrete shoulder improvements and construction of a railroad tunnel structure under I-70. The project is scheduled for completion December 2016.
