Highway Impacts begin for Pro Challenge Bike Race

August 17, 2015 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The USA Pro Challenge gets underway today with the Steamboat Springs Circuit Race.

Traffic impacts to U.S. 40, State Highway 131 and Routt county roads begin about 11:40 a.m. and continue until approximately 4 p.m.  Lincoln Ave. (U.S. 40) through downtown Steamboat Springs remains closed to through traffic.  A detour is in place.   

SPECIFIC ROAD IMPACTS (Drivers should be prepared to stop at locations along the race route before and while racers and support vehicles pass by intersecting roadways)

  • STATE: U.S. 40 – between Mt. Werner Rd. and 13th St – CR 33.  State Highway (SH) 131 between Oak Creek and County Road 14/14F.
  • LOCAL/COUNTY: County Roads 33, 27 and 14/14F.

The Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) website www.cotrip.org will help assist motorists who will be traveling the various state and local roadways that are part of the race route.  It includes information regarding road closure and opening times, anticipated delays, oversize and overweight restrictions, parking and camping information and links to host city websites. Please be aware that delay and closure times are estimates only and subject to change depending on the pace of the race, weather, and other unanticipated conditions. 

For real-time information regarding highway impacts, motorists can sign up for CDOT email and text alerts by visiting www.cotrip.org and clicking on the small envelope icon at the bottom right of the page.  In addition, daily road closure information will be available by calling 511 from anywhere in the state. Tomorrow’s Highway Impacts:

  • Aug. 18/Stage 2/Steamboat Springs to Arapahoe Basin: U.S. 40 east to Parshall, CR 3 south and west over Ute Pass to SH 9.  SH 9 south to Silverthorne/Dillion, U.S. 6 east to Arapahoe Basin.  Impacts begin at 8 a.m. and end at approximately 6 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE: Ramps closed at Interstate 70/U.S. 6/SH 9 Interchange (Exit 205) between approximately 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.  Eastbound and westbound U.S. 6/Loveland Pass closed to all vehicular traffic (exception: transit for spectators) between Montezuma Rd. and A-Basin from about 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

CDOT is distributing race information the morning of each stage, with any necessary updates regarding impacts to the state highway system.
