CDOT installs temporary traffic cameras on SH 82 through Glenwood Springs
GARFIELD COUNTY/GLENWOOD SPRINGS, CO – In preparation for the upcoming project to replace the Grand Avenue Bridge, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be installing temporary traffic cameras at some 13 intersections on State Highway 82 through town. The intersections include those north of the I-70 interchange (6th Ave. at both Pine and Laurel streets) and south through town to Blake Street.
Twenty-two cameras, similar to GoPros, will be installed at the intersections to record side-street traffic queues and wait times. In addition, traffic engineers will be driving the corridor at various times of the day to record wait times and traffic flow on SH 82.
“The purpose of our study is to determine travel times from I-70 to Blake Street, on both SH 82 and all side streets at signalized intersections,” CDOT Region 3 Traffic Engineer David Oldham said. “We will use this information when planning for construction on the Grand Avenue Bridge, as well as for future signal timing adjustment.”
TRAVEL IMPACTS: Camera installation will begin this Wednesday, August 5, and they will be removed the following Sunday or Monday. Motorists can expect very little or no impacts to their travel during the work.
