I-25 Closures Scheduled for Fillmore Interchange Project

July 8, 2015 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - COLORADO SPRINGS – Northbound and southbound Interstate 25 will be closed for a couple of nights this week for bridge girder installation at Fillmore Street.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, and Sunday, July 12, traffic on I-25 will be detoured via the exit and entrance ramps to allow crews to place six, 180,000 pound girders over the highway as part of the interchange reconstruction project.  Closing the highway is necessary to maintain safety for the traveling public.

ADDITIONAL TRAFFIC DETOURS:

  • Southbound I-25 – can access westbound Fillmore.  For eastbound Fillmore, drivers should exit at Garden of the Gods Road or Fontanero Street.
  • Northbound I-25 – can access eastbound Fillmore.  For westbound Fillmore, drivers should exit at Garden of the Gods
  • Eastbound Fillmore – can access southbound I-25.  For northbound I-25, drivers should take southbound I-25 to Fontanero and turnaround to access northbound I-25.
  • Westbound Fillmore – can access northbound I-25.  For southbound I-25, drivers should go north on I-25 to Garden of the Gods and turnaround to access southbound I-25.

I-25 will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. on Friday, July 10, andMonday, July 13.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is replacing the current diamond interchange with a Diverging Diamond Interchange where both directions of traffic on Fillmore will cross on the opposite side of the bridge.  It will also increase the vehicle capacity of the overpass by removing the left turn signal phase with a free-flow left turn movement.

Construction is scheduled for completion in summer 2016.
