Some longer delays expected for US 550 Ridgway north rock fall work
The project began on March 23 and has an estimated completion date of mid-October 2015.
The project is proceeding well and production drilling and blasting work has begun. Traffic remains detoured onto temporary pavement outside the work area, however 30 minute delays are expected as all traffic is stopped for 20 minutes during rock blasting and debris removal—then traffic queues are cleared in both directions. The added delays of clearing traffic queues will vary, depending upon traffic volumes (and volumes will continue to increase now that summer has arrived).
This project involves extensive excavation between milepost (MP) 106 and MP 107. Work includes drilling, blasting, installation of wire mesh, installation of rock bolts, and construction of a soil nail (retaining) wall at the base of the hillside. The total excavation for the project is approximately 22,000 cubic yards of rock.
TRAVEL IMPACTS: The project will have impacts to travel on US 550, including lane closures and full traffic stops in both directions, Mon-Fri 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Delays may be up to 30 minutes as traffic is stopped for rock blasting and clearing and traffic queues are cleared in each direction. In addition, the multi-use trail is closed during active blasting and rock scaling or any time that safety to the users may be at risk, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. The trail will be reopened as soon as safety conditions allow.
