US 550 Closed North of Durango on Saturday for Bike Race

May 19, 2015 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Some rolling closures in town in the morning.

LA PLATA COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation will close a portion of US 550 north of Durango this Saturday, May 23, during the annual Iron Horse Bicycle Classic.

Starting at 7:15 a.m:  Southbound US 550 traffic will be diverted onto CR 203 at Hermosa Creek to Animas View Drive, just north of town. Northbound traffic from town all the way to Purgatory Ski Resort will proceed along US 550 with traffic control in place.

Starting at 7:30 a.m.: Rolling closures in the northbound lanes of US 550/Camino Del Rio through Durango (from downtown north to Animas View Drive) will be in place to accommodate the three biking events’ starting times.

Between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m: US 550 will be fully closed in both directions between Purgatory Ski Resort and Silverton (the highway will remain open north of Silverton, as always).

ALTERNATE ROUTES:  Traffic may choose to use east Animas Road (CR 250) if going north; and Santa Rita Drive if wanting to avoid rolling closures downtown in the morning.

CDOT does not post any changes or updates to the ride schedule – for information on the ride, the public may go here: http://www.ironhorsebicycleclassic.com/.
