Traffic Stops underway near Conifer for Rock Work

May 18, 2015 - Central/Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) started work today to remove rocks and other natural materials from a hillside as part of slope repair project on U.S. 285, northeast of Conifer.

Drivers should anticipate traffic stops up to 20 minutes on southbound Highway 285 at mile 244 - about four miles southwest of the State Highway 8/Morrison Road Interchange.  Stops are taking place until 3:30 p.m. today.  For the rest of the week, work will begin at 7 a.m. and continue until 3:30 p.m.  On Friday, May 22, crews will be off the road by midday due to the Memorial Day holiday.  In addition to the traffic stops, the right lane will remain closed during work hours, with a right shoulder closure in place 24/7.

The traffic stops are necessary to allow heavy equipment to remove material from an area about 150 feet wide and 50 feet high.

Work resumes on Tuesday, May 26, and continues through next week.  Project completion is expected by Friday, May 29.

CDOT will closely monitor traffic conditions and remove any traffic stops or lane closures if traffic volumes begin creating long backups, especially on Friday, May 22.
