Highway 24 Business Closed

May 21, 2015 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - MANITOU SPRINGS — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has closed U.S. 24 Business (Manitou Avenue) between the roundabout at Serpentine Drive and mainline Highway 24 due to cracks that have formed in the westbound lanes of the roadway.

Closing the highway is a precautionary safety measure due to the heavy rainfall that is forecast for the area overnight.

Serpentine Drive also is closed between U.S. 24 Business and mainline Highway 24 since it parallels the business route and a retaining wall between the two roadways also is showing signs of cracking.

CDOT engineers have installed equipment to monitor and record potential road or wall movement over the next 12 to 18 hours.  They then will reassess the condition of both roadways on Friday to determine next steps.

Mainline U.S. 24 is not impacted by this closure with the exception of the exit ramp from eastbound Highway 24 to Business U.S. 24.
