CANCELLED: Upcoming Nighttime Closures on Westbound US 6 at Garrison Street

April 20, 2015 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - CDOT will close the westbound lanes on US 6 on Tuesday, April 21 and Wednesday, April 22 on US 6 over Garrison Street.

DENVER – As part of US 6 over Garrison Street bridge replacement project, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) was scheduled to close the westbound lanes on US 6 on Tuesday, April 21 and Wednesday, April 22 between 11:30 pm to 5:30 am for the demolition of the northern lanes of US 6 over Garrison Street. This closure has now been cancelled. No reschedule date has been set.

Background

The replacement of the existing structurally deficient bridge along US 6 over Garrison Street started in January 2015 and will be completed in five phases. Three of the phases are for bridge demolition and reconstruction. In each phase, a section of the existing bridge will be demolished while a section of the new bridge is constructed. Three lanes in each direction on US 6 will be maintained at peak travel times throughout the project, but a series of shifts in the lanes will accompany each phase. Intermittent night work will result in lane closures.

The construction project will provide greater vertical sight distance on US 6, improve drainage, widen lanes on both US6 and Garrison Street and improve sidewalks, signals, bike lanes, aesthetics and lighting under the bridge.

The City of Lakewood has been an important partner in the planning and development of this project, which is scheduled for completion in late 2015.

CDOT and the contractor team, led by Hamon Infrastructure, would like to remind motorists to slow down in the construction area. Fines will be doubled within the work zone.
