Southbound Federal Boulevard to close overnight tomorrow

March 12, 2015 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - Storm sewer relocation, bridge girder placement highlight busy weekend of work.

DENVER – Crews on the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) US 6 Bridges Design Build Project are preparing to relocate a storm sewer near the Federal Boulevard bridge over US 6. As a result, beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, March 13, southbound Federal Boulevard will close between 5th Avenue and 8th Avenue. It will reopen by 7 a.m. Saturday, March 14. Northbound Federal Boulevard will be reduced to a single lane during these hours.

“The only way to complete this work safely is with this closure of southbound Federal Boulevard,” said Kevin Sullivan, CDOT Project Director. “Doing this on a weekend night allows us to avoid the busy morning rush hour of a typical weekday.”

In addition to this work, on Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15, crews will set girders on the US 6 bridge over the S. Platte River. This work will require various lane closures on eastbound US 6 each night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:

  • Southbound Federal traffic will take 8th Avenue to Knox Court to 1st Avenue to reconnect with southbound Federal.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Substantial project completion is planned for fall 2015.
