Jan. 1 Overnight I-70 Closure at Exit 240/SH103 Bridge Cancelled
The closure was scheduled to begin tonight at 9:00 p.m., but due to weather the necessary materials and equipment cannot be delivered and set up.
As of now, the full overnight closure of I-70 at Exit 240 is still scheduled to occur the next three nights, Jan. 2, 3 and 4 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Motorists will use the on and off ramps in both directions at Exit 240 to continuously move around the closure.
The SH 103 Bridge is part of the larger Peak Period Shoulder Lane project and once completed in the fall of 2015, the PPSL will provide increased mobility by implementing eastbound operational improvements between Empire Junction and Idaho Springs to relieve traffic congestion during periods when traffic volumes are highest. This $72 million dollar investment is expected to save motorists an average of 30 minutes in travel time. The project is part of CDOT’s comprehensive plan to improve travel in the I-70 Mountain Corridor.
