Ramp metering work begins tomorrow

November 10, 2014 - Metro Denver Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - DENVER – Starting Tuesday, Nov. 11, the Colorado Department of Transportation will begin a ramp metering project at various locations throughout the Denver metro area.

This $750,000 project, which was awarded to TK Construction, involves installing necessary infrastructure for the future operation of ramp metering at each location. Ramp metering improves traffic operations by regulating the flow of traffic entering the highway according to current traffic conditions.

Work will begin on the three I-25 on-ramps at Castle Pines Parkway followed by the eastbound C470 ramps at Santa Fe Drive (US 85). In total, the following 10 on-ramp locations are part of the project.

•              Eastbound C470 at Sante Fe Dr. (US85)

•              Northbound I-25 at Castle Pines Pkwy. (2 ramps)

•              Southbound I-25 at Castle Pines Pkwy.

•              Northbound I-25 at Thorton Pkwy.

•              Southbound I-25 at 136th Ave.

•              Southbound I-25 at 144th Ave.

•              Westbound I-70 at Kipling Pkwy.

•              Eastbound I-70 at Denver West Blvd.

•              Westbound I-70 at Denver West  Blvd.

Some locations have partial infrastructure (e.g., loop detectors, controller cabinets, etc.) in place whereas other locations are entirely new builds. The project is anticipated to be complete in the winter of 2015.

In general, ramp construction activity will occur between 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. No mainline highway lane closures are anticipated. The project will require shoulder or single-lane closures on ramps only. Minor delays are expected on the ramps. CDOT thanks motorists in advance for going Slow for the Cone Zone.
