CDOT Rehabilitating Bridge on Eastbound I-70 at 32nd Avenue

November 19, 2014 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - DENVER – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will perform an emergency bridge rehabilitation on eastbound I-70 at 32nd Avenue, following several recent smaller emergency repairs.

CDOT is accelerating a larger $1.9 million bridge rehab project that was slated to begin in spring of 2015. CDOT maintenance began bridge rehab work early this morning to immediately address the bridge and maintain safe travel for motorists as contractor, ABCO, mobilized to the project site.

“Our primary goal is to maintain the safety of all users of Colorado roadways, which is why we are pushing forward with an aggressive work schedule,” said Tony DeVito, CDOT Region Transportation Director. “We fully understand the impact of this work as it leads right into the Thanksgiving holiday and sympathize with the frustration, so we encourage drivers to plan ahead by allowing extra travel time and finding alternate routes to their destination.”

Work has begun and requires a double lane closure on eastbound I-70 at 32nd Avenue, which will remain in effect until Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014. Work will continue around the clock to ensure safety and future mobility in the area. This initial repair will better inform on the work necessary for the westbound portion of this structure, which is scheduled to start occur after the Thanksgiving holiday.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:

  • To detour around this closure, eastbound I-70 motorists should exit at 6th Avenue and use northbound I-25 to transition back to eastbound I-70.

CDOT and ABCO remind motorists to drive slow through the cone zone!
