CDOT Region 5 Maintenance Activity Update: Nov. 8 – Nov 15

November 6, 2014 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Please note – there will be no non-emergency work underway on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in recognition of Veteran’s Day.

SOUTHWEST/SOUTH-CENTRAL COLORADO – The following are this upcoming week’s maintenance activities that impact travel within CDOT Region 5’s two maintenance sections. (Numerous additional projects will be underway, but may only impact shoulders and/or cause only brief impacts in a mobile work zone). Motorists are advised to slow down and drive with extra caution whenever work vehicles or flashing lights are seen. Thank you for driving “Slow for the Cone Zone!”

Area:  Poncha Pass, South of Poncha Springs

Location:  US 285, Mile Point (MP) 119-126.5

Duration:  Underway until “winter weather hits,” 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday

Description:  Ongoing clean-up and repair work following seasonal flooding; crews will be clearing debris from culverts and drainage ditches; repairing shoulders; cleaning and repairing guardrail and delineators, mowing; clearing behind concrete barrier, and more. Expect periodic single-lane closures, a reduced speed limit and some travel delays.

 

Area:  Red Mountain Pass Summit North

Location:  US 550, Mile Point (MP) 80.28 to 95

Duration:  11/10 through 11/14, 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday

Description:  Delineator work; minimal impact, watch for roadside vehicles.

 

Area:  North of Durango

Location:  US 550, Mile Point (MP) 24-35.4

Duration:  11/10 until “winter weather hits,” 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday through Friday this week, and Monday through Friday other non-holiday weeks until winter.

Description:  Crack sealing, from the north edge of Durango city limits north for 10 miles; the speed limit will be reduced with single-lane, alternating traffic (unless crews are working in the three-lane section) and 10-15 minute delays.

 

Area:  West of Pagosa Springs

Location:  US 160, Mile Point (MP) 135-137

Duration:  11/10 through 11/11, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Wednesday through Friday this week, and Monday through Friday other non-holiday weeks until winter.

Description:  Shoulder work; speed reduced to 40 mph with single-lane, alternating traffic and some delays.

 

Area:  Mesa Verde

Location:  SH 145, Mile Point (MP) 45-49

Duration:  11/12 through 11/12, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday

Description:  Shoulder repairs east and west of Mesa Verde National Park entrance; minimal impact.


Area:  Telluride South

Location:  SH 145, Mile Point (MP) 59.5-71.3

Duration:  11/12 through 11/12, 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday

Description:  Cleaning/shaping shoulders south of Telluride, from Society Turn to the top of Lizard Head Pass; expect minimal travel impacts.

 

Area:  North of Cortez

Location:  US 491, Mile Point (MP) 26.4-27.5

Duration:  11/13 through 11/13, approx. 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday

Description:  Pothole repairs; minimal travel impact.

 

*CDOT’s Region 5 includes the counties of Montezuma, Dolores, San Miguel, southern Montrose, Ouray, San Juan, La Plata, Archuleta, Mineral, Chaffee, Saguache, Rio Grande, Conejos, Alamosa and Costilla. There are two Maintenance Sections (headquartered in Durango and Alamosa), six Maintenance Areas (with offices in Durango, Ridgway, Cortez, Alamosa, Monte Vista and Salida) and numerous Maintenance Patrols within those Areas. Each Maintenance Section also has a “Special Crews” division for Section-wide support work, including avalanche control, facilities maintenance, culvert work and more.
