CDOT Region 5 Maintenance Activity Update: Nov. 24 – Nov 28
SOUTHWEST/SOUTH-CENTRAL COLORADO – The following are this upcoming week’s maintenance activities that impact travel within CDOT Region 5’s two maintenance sections. (Numerous additional projects will be underway, but may only impact shoulders and/or cause only brief impacts in a mobile work zone). Motorists are advised to slow down and drive with extra caution whenever work vehicles or flashing lights are seen. Thank you for driving “Slow for the Cone Zone!”

Area: Poncha Pass, South of Poncha Springs
Location: US 285, Mile Point (MP) 119-126.5
Duration: Underway until “winter weather hits,” 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
Description: Ongoing clean-up and repair work following seasonal flooding; crews will be clearing debris from culverts and drainage ditches; repairing shoulders; cleaning and repairing guardrail and delineators, mowing; clearing behind concrete barrier, and more. Expect periodic single-lane closures, a reduced speed limit and some travel delays.
Area: West of Monarch Pass
Location: US 50, Mile Point (MP) 165-192
Duration: Through 12/31, weather permitting, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
Description: Guardrail repairs between MM 175 and 176 underway over the next week or two as weather permits; and highway delineator post repairs throughout the Monarch Pass west corridor. Expect periodic traffic shifts or lane closures when work vehicles are present, a reduced speed limit (to 40 mph down from 65 mph) and minor travel delays.

Location: US 24, Mile Point (MP) 200-201
Duration: Through 11/30, weather permitting, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
Description: Shoulder work will require lane shifts, a reduced speed limit (to 40 mph down from 65 mph) and minor travel delays.
Area: South of Alamosa
Location: US 285, Mile Point (MP) 28
Duration: 11/24 to 11-28, weather permitting, 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
Description: Routine shoulder maintenance; minimal impacts to travel, watch for roadside vehicles.
Area: Telluride to Lizard Head Pass
Location: SH 145, Mile Point (MP) 59.5-71.5
Duration: 11/24 to 11-26, weather permitting, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
Description: Shoulder widening, shoulder clearing for winter prep. Watch for lane shifts and/or short lane closures where work vehicles and crews are present. Minimal travel impact.
Area: Dove Creek North
Location: SH 141, Mile Point (MP) 3-5
Duration: 11/24 to 11-28, weather permitting, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
Description: Shoulder work; minimal travel impact.
Area: Through Mancos
Location: US 160, Mile Point (MP) 55.4-56.4
Duration: 11/24 to 11-26, weather permitting, 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Wednesday
Description: Pavement crack sealing in the islands through town; minimal impacts to travel.
Area: Durango to East of Bayfield
Location: US 160, Mile Point (MP) 91-121
Duration: 11/24 to 11-28, weather permitting, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
Description: Shoulder work and roadside delineator repairs/replacement; minimal impact to traffic, watch for roadside vehicles.
Area: South of Pagosa Springs
Location: SH 84 between Pagosa Springs and New Mexico state line
Duration: 11/24 to 11-26, weather permitting, 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Wednesday
Description: Shoulder work; minimal travel impacts, watch for roadside vehicles.
*CDOT’s Region 5 includes the counties of Montezuma, Dolores, San Miguel, southern Montrose, Ouray, San Juan, La Plata, Archuleta, Mineral, Chaffee, Saguache, Rio Grande, Conejos, Alamosa and Costilla. There are two Maintenance Sections (headquartered in Durango and Alamosa), six Maintenance Areas (with offices in Durango, Ridgway, Cortez, Alamosa, Monte Vista and Salida) and numerous Maintenance Patrols within those Areas. Each Maintenance Section also has a “Special Crews” division for Section-wide support work, including avalanche control, facilities maintenance, culvert work and more.
