CDOT’s Asset Management Program at Work
CONEJOS COUNTY – Work on the Colorado Department of Transportation project to improve a section of US 285 north and south of Antonito is underway. The work was contracted to APC Southern Construction for $2.6 million and is scheduled for completion in late November.
The project involves milling of the existing pavement followed by asphalt resurfacing, shouldering and guardrail upgrades. Crews are currently working at Site 1, which extends from mile point 5.18 north to mile point 5.7 (at the intersection with SH 17). The project skips downtown Antonito (which will receive concrete reconstruction next year) and Site 2 begins at mile point 6.3 and extends north to mile point 11.5.
“The work is a good example of CDOT’s Asset Management Program, which focuses on getting more out of the state’s transportation system and funding projects based on ‘greatest value,’” CDOT Region 5 Program Engineer Ed Archuleta said. “This project will protect and prolong the highway surface and address ruts at the SH 17 intersection caused by heavy truck traffic.”
TRAFFIC IMPACTS - Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday; the speed limit will be reduced through the work zone and motorists can expect single-lane, alternating travel during work hours. Motorists should allow for travel delays up to 15 minutes. All business and residence access will be maintained, but may be temporarily altered. Thank you for going Slow for the Cone Zone!
