CDOT working to decrease congestion at I-25 and Harmony Road in Fort Collins

October 17, 2014 - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - Additional turn lane on southbound off-ramp is the first step.

FORT COLLINS — The Colorado Department of Transportation has installed an additional left turn lane on the southbound off-ramp on I-25 at Harmony Road as the first step of an overall plan for operational improvements to decrease congestion.

“Traffic has been heavy in this area. However, with the new businesses on the east side of the interstate, traffic has increased dramatically,” said Mike Crow, CDOT Regional Traffic Engineer. “Since we had the room at that off-ramp, we were able to re-stripe and add a second left turn.”

With the new turn lane installed, the next step will be to look at the traffic flow in the area and work on the timing of the traffic signals to better sync them to this new flow.

“We have been seeing a lot of backups in the area, and we think some adjustments to the timing of the lights could have a significant impact and lessen a few headaches for drivers in that area,” Crow said.

The improvements to the timing of the lights will take place over the next few weeks.
