Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - GARFIELD COUNTY –Representatives from the White River National Forest and the Colorado Department of Transportation will host a public meeting to discuss future plans for the Hanging Lake rest area and trailhead.

When: Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 5:00-7 p.m.

In 2013, a diverse group of stakeholders met to identify issues and project goals as it relates to Hanging Lake and what is becoming an increasing concern due to congestion and over-capacity of this scenic and popular destination. The goals of the project seek to protect natural resources, manage congestion at Hanging Lake parking lot, enhance public safety, improve visitor experience and support local tourism.

The United States Forest Service, working with U.S. DOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center and CDOT, are working to improve these conditions.

Additional partners include the Federal Highway Administration, Colorado State Patrol, Glenwood Springs Fire Department, Garfield County Search and Rescue, Glenwood Springs Chamber and Resort Association, and the Glenwood Springs Tourism Promotion Board.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting Tuesday to hear more about the conceptual phased solutions being considered for the site and to provide input and suggestions.
