CDOT Access Permit Project Gets Underway

September 23, 2014 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Improvements at US 491 and CR CC in Pleasant View

Montezuma County, CO – Kinder Morgan is paying for highway improvements at US 491/CR CC to accommodate the Cow Canyon CO2 development west of the highway in Pleasant View. An interim northbound left-turn lane was installed in late July while Kinder Morgan continued to develop plans for permanent improvements.

“The design includes a left-turn deceleration lane, right-turn acceleration lane and restriping the highway through Pleasant View,” Kinder Morgan Facilities Engineer II Matt Ammerman said. “The construction of these final improvements is scheduled to begin the week of September 15, 2014, and we expect to be completed with the work by October 31, 2014.

The state Highway Access Code requires development to provide highway improvements to mitigate impacts to the highway system at intersections and access locations.

“These improvements will result in safer travel through this area as the traffic increases to and from the development. Kinder Morgan has been very proactive in working with CDOT to provide these improvements,” CDOT Region 5 Access Manager Jim Horn said.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:  For the first several days as crews construct the concrete barrier separating the work zone, motorists will encounter single-lane, alternating traffic. Then, through the project’s completion by October 31, 2014, motorists can expect only minor travel impacts and traffic slowing during daytime hours, Monday through Friday.
