Busy weekend ahead on US 6 Bridges Project
Project work this weekend will include continued concrete paving on westbound US 6, in addition to girder placement on the north half of the new US 6 bridge over I-25.
Concrete paving on westbound US 6 will require closing the right lane of westbound US 6 between Federal Boulevard and Knox Court.
- This work will occur between the hours of 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, and5:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29.
- The Federal Boulevard on-ramp to westbound US 6 will close in conjunction with this work.
Setting the girders for the US 6 bridge over I-25 will involve the following traffic impacts:
- Saturday, Sept. 27, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Full closure of northbound I-25
- Triple lane closures on southbound I-25
- Sunday, Sept. 28, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Full closure of southbound I-25
- Triple lane closures on northbound I-25
- NOTE: Lane closures will begin at about 8 p.m. each night.
“We do expect some traffic delays during the day on Sunday,” said Kevin Sullivan, CDOT Project Director. “We encourage drivers to plan their drive accordingly and consider using alternative transportation methods such as RTD’s Light Rail service.”
TRAVEL IMPACTS:
- To access westbound US 6 from Federal Boulevard, drivers should take Alameda Avenue or Colfax Avenue west to Sheridan Boulevard, and take Sheridan Boulevard to US 6.
- Northbound I-25 detour: Motorists will detour off I-25 onto eastbound US 6, exit eastbound US 6 at Osage Street, and take Osage Street to access the on-ramp to northbound I-25.
- Southbound I-25 detour: Motorists will detour west on US 6 to Federal Boulevard, south on Federal Boulevard to 5th Avenue to merge onto eastbound US 6, and east on US 6 to reconnect with southbound I-25. There could also be delays along eastbound US 6 near I-25 with additional traffic following this detour route.
PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Substantial project completion is planned for August 2015.

During construction, commuters might want to consider alternative modes of transportation to help ease the impacts of the project. This could include using the Regional Transportation District’s West Rail Line or bus service or taking advantage of carpool/vanpool options. For information on RTD services, call 303-299-6000.
