Bridge on SH 90 at Bedrock Fully Closed
MONTROSE COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has closed the bridge over the Dolores River on SH 90 at Bedrock, about 15 miles east of the Utah border. CDOT’s Staff Bridge engineers will expedite the design for emergency repairs and then, a work schedule and reopen date can be estimated.
The 1952 steel through-truss bridge underwent routine inspection (typically every two years for older bridges) in December 2013, with no damage identified. Upon a site visit yesterday, September 15, a CDOT engineer discovered a crack on one of the structure’s vertical truss members (see photo).
More information will be sent out as soon as a work schedule is known. As an alternate route into and out of Utah, motorists can use SH 141 and US 491.
