US 6 to close overnight at Federal Boulevard Aug. 22 & 24

August 20, 2014 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - DENVER – On Friday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Aug. 24, crews will set girders on the Federal Boulevard bridge over US 6, as part of the Colorado Department of Transportation's (CDOT) ongoing US 6 Bridges Design Build Project.

This work will require full overnight closures of US 6 under the Federal Boulevard Bridge for safety purposes.

In conjunction with this work, crews will also close northbound Federal Boulevard between 2nd Avenue and 8th Avenue. All closures will occur between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., with single lane closures beginning at 8 p.m. each night.

Crews will also reduce southbound Federal Boulevard traffic to one lane of travel between 8th Avenue and 5th Avenue each night.

“Setting girders on the Federal Boulevard Bridge over US 6 represents a key moment for this project,” said Kevin Sullivan, CDOT Project Director. “This is one of the busiest and trickiest stretches within the project corridor and this progress allows us to take reconstruction of this bridge to the next level.”

TRAVEL IMPACTS:

Westbound US 6 traffic will detour around this closure using the Federal off and on-ramps.

Eastbound US 6 traffic will detour at the Federal off-ramp, then use the 5th Avenue on-ramp to connect back with eastbound US 6 toward downtown Denver.

Northbound Federal Boulevard traffic will detour to 2nd Avenue, Bryant Street, 7th Avenue, Canosa Court and 8th Avenue to reconnect with Federal.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Substantial project completion is planned for August 2015.
