US 160/US 550 CFI Project Update

August 1, 2014 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Final signal work and striping underway; City of Durango’s sculpture now in place

Durango, CO – In the next two weeks as the US 160/US 550 Continuous Flow Intersection project comes to an end, which is scheduled for mid-August, CDOT and contractor Concrete Works of Colorado will be incorporating the final signal and road striping configurations. The temporary 8-foot lanes currently in place on US 160 will be reconfigured to 11 feet in the final phase of construction. Additionally, motorists traveling eastbound on US 160 can now utilize the improved turn-lanes at the CFI intersection: two dedicated left-turn lanes and one dedicated right-turn lane (previously, there were only two in-bound lanes:  one for left turns and another shared for both left and right turns). Please note, there will still be lane closures for continuing work on US 160 west (see below).

New to the intersection is “Arc of History,” a sculpture by Tom Holmes, selected through the City of Durango’s recent public art project. The sculpture placement is part of CDOT’s statewide practice of working with cities and counties on their locally selected and funded art projects and roadside beautification in state right of way. The City will also be providing the landscaping for the new raised medians at a later date.

Travel impacts from Saturday, August 2 through Friday, August 8:
