I-25 to close overnight at US 6 Wednesday, Aug. 27

August 26, 2014 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - DENVER – On Wednesday, Aug. 27, crews will pour the bridge deck on the new northbound I-25 off-ramp bridge to westbound US 6, as part of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) ongoing US 6 Bridges Design Build Project.

This work will require a full overnight closure of I-25 at US 6 for safety purposes.

This closure will occur between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., with single lane closures beginning around 10 p.m.

“With this project, we are constructing 12 structures in total,” said Kevin Sullivan, CDOT Project Director. “Nine of these will replace aging infrastructure, while this ramp represents one of three brand new structures. This new off-ramp will be one of the most noticeable improvements we make as part of this project.”

The new northbound I-25 off-ramp bridge to westbound US 6 will improve upon the current off-ramp, which involves a tight loop and leaves an undesirable merge configuration for motorists transitioning from northbound I-25 to westbound US 6. This new off-ramp bridge, scheduled to open to traffic in early 2015, will feed into a new collector-distributor road designed to provide a safer, more efficient merge from I-25 to westbound US 6.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:

Northbound I-25 motorists will detour off I-25 onto eastbound US 6, exit eastbound US 6 at Osage Street, and take Osage Street to access the on-ramp to northbound I-25.

Southbound I-25 motorists will detour west on US 6 to Federal Boulevard, south on Federal Boulevard to 5th Avenue to merge onto eastbound US 6, and east on US 6 to reconnect with southbound I-25. There could also be delays along eastbound US 6 near I-25 with additional traffic following this detour route.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Substantial project completion is planned for August 2015.
