Highway Impacts for Today’s Pro Challenge

August 19, 2014 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Route includes Two Mountain Passes.

ASPEN — Stage Two of the USA Pro Challenge takes the riders on a 105.4-mile race from Aspen to Mt. Crested Butte today, impacting three state highways and several local and county roads.

Drivers should anticipate road closures or traffic stops beginning in Aspen at 10:30 a.m. and continuing along the route until 4 p.m. in Mt. Crested Butte.

ROAD IMPACTS

Ø  STATE: Highway (SH) 82: Main Street through Aspen to Cemetery Lane; Smith Hill Way to Basalt; Two Rivers Road west to Catherine’s Store (CR 100). SH 133: South from Carbondale over McClure Pass to CR 12

Ø  LOCAL: McLain Flats Road (CR 19); Two Rivers Road (Old SH 82) through Basalt; CR 100 to and through Carbondale; CR 12 over Kebler Pass; Gothic Road from Crested Butte to Mt. Crested Butte.

To help motorists navigate the various state and local roadways for the next seven days, the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) websitewww.cotrip.org will have information regarding highway closures, delays, oversize and overweight restrictions, suggested alternative routes, and answers to frequently asked questions. Links to the host city websites also are provided, offering information regarding local road closures and long-term parking availability.  Delay and closure times are estimates only and subject to change depending on the pace of the race, weather, and other unanticipated conditions.

For real-time information related to highway impacts, motorists are encouraged to sign up for CDOT’s email and text alerts, available at www.coloradodot.info by clicking on the green cell phone icon.  In addition to the cotrip.org website, daily road closure information will be available by calling 511 from anywhere in the state. Tomorrow’s Highway Impacts:

Aug. 20/Stage 3/Gunnison to Monarch Mountain: U.S. 50 east over Monarch Pass to U.S. 285 junction (Poncha Springs), county roads to Salida, traffic stops on SH 291 (West 1st Street in Salida), county roads to Poncha Springs, U.S. 50 west to the top of Monarch Pass.  Impacts begin about 11 a.m. and end at approximately6 p.m.

    • PLEASE NOTE: Highway 50 will be closed to ALL motorized traffic between SH 114 and U.S. 285 in Poncha Springs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  SH 114 will be the detour route during the closure.  However, while U.S. 50 is closed, all oversized and hazardous material trucks will be held at staging areas in Gunnison and Poncha Springs beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until approximately 6 p.m.

CDOT is distributing race information the morning of each stage, with any necessary updates regarding impacts to the state highway system.
