Upcoming Road Maintenance in Colorado Springs Area

July 24, 2014 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - EL PASO COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will chip seal and repair guardrail on two state highways next week.

Monday, July 28: Guard rail repairs will be taking place on eastbound and westbound State Highway 94, about 12 miles east of the U.S. 24 junction.  Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Flaggers will alternate one lane of traffic through the work zone and delays up to 10 minutes should be anticipated.  A 40 mph speed limit will be in effect.

Tuesday, July 29 & Wednesday, July 30:  Chip sealing operations will be taking place on northbound and southbound State Highway 83 between Shoup Road and Benet Lane (mile 21.6 – 25).  Work hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.  A pilot car and flaggers will alternate traffic through the work zone with delays up to 10 minutes.  A reduced 30 mph speed limit will be in effect.

Chip sealing applies liquid asphalt and rock material (or aggregates) to a roadway, followed by sweeping and a protective coating.  It is a preventive maintenance operation, designed to extend a highway’s effective surface life five to 10 years, depending upon traffic volumes and climate.

All work is weather permitting.

Motorists are reminded to please Slow for the Cone Zone, stay alert and pay attention to and obey all work zone/advisory signs and flaggers.
