I-70 Off-Ramp (Exit 49) on SH 65 to Close Beginning Monday
MESA COUNTY –The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced plans for daytime closures of the eastbound I-70 off-ramp (Exit 49) at State Highway (SH) 65 beginning Monday, June 23 and continuing through July 2014.
The ramp closure will facilitate upgrades and erosion control measures to improve safety and increase drainage at the interchange.
The eastbound off-ramp will be closed Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Monday, June 23. The ramp will be open daily after 3 p.m. and on weekends.
ALTERNATE ROUTE: Motorists can access SH 65 from eastbound I-70 by continuing to the De Beque exit, County Road (CR) 45 1/2 and returning westbound to SH 65. Westbound I-70 traffic will still be able to access SH 65; however motorists can expect a single lane closure on the ramp for installation of erosion control panels.
The ramp closure is part of a project to resurface sections of eastbound and westbound I-70 from mile marker 16 to mile marker 49. The project includes an asphalt overlay from mm 16 to mm 37 and a chip seal treatment from mm 37 to 49. Other safety improvements will include work on guardrails, bridge rail upgrades and bridge deck resurfacing.
In observance of the Independence Day holiday, there will be no construction delays from noon on Thursday, July 3, to 6 a.m. on Monday, July 7.
Traffic control will be in place. CDOT would like to remind motorists to Slow for the Cone Zone. Fines will be doubled within the work zone.
Mays Construction Specialties, a joint venture with Elam Construction, is the contractor for this $16.1 million project, which is scheduled for completion in mid-November 2014. The project is funded in part by the Responsible Acceleration of Maintenance and Partnership (RAMP) program. If you have questions or concerns about this project, please call the project hotline at 970-639-7755 or e:mail [email protected].
