FASTER-Funded Safety Improvements Get Underway on US 285 in Alamosa

April 10, 2014 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - ALAMOSA, CO – The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin a project this Monday, April 14, to improve the section of US 285 south of US 160 Alamosa.

The work, contracted to A & S Construction for $3.1 million, is being funded in part through Colorado FASTER* and includes the stretch from 7th Street south to Alamosa County Road 9S (or Airport Road).The project is scheduled for completion this July and involves resurfacing, minor highway widening to accommodate a 14-foot-wide center painted median, upgraded left-turn pockets and lengthened right-turn acceleration/deceleration lanes at the five intersections along the two-mile section (MP 34 south to 32).

The project will increase safety for turning movements along this increasingly busy stretch.

TRAVEL IMPACTS: Motorists will encounter single-lane, alternating traffic and some travel delays Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
