I-225 at Mississippi to Switch Traffic Onto Northbound Ramps This Weekend

March 27, 2014 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - DENVER – As part of the I-225 Widening Project, crews will be switching traffic onto the new northbound on and off-ramps at I-225 and Mississippi Avenue on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30.

This work will require a full closure of the northbound ramps on Saturday night and traffic control will be on site to direct traffic beginning at 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Traffic control will remain on site through 5:30 a.m. Monday, March 31. All work for this closure and traffic switch is set to be complete by morning rush hour on Monday. This work is weather permitting and subject to change.

In May 2012, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) began a safety and capacity improvement project on I-225 between Mississippi Avenue and Parker Road. The project will widen I-225 to accommodate three lanes in each direction with an additional auxiliary lane. This will complete the widening of I-225 between I-25 and I-70, eliminating the bottleneck that now exists at Mississippi Avenue. As part of the project, the Yale Avenue bridge over I-225 will be replaced and other minor roadway elements will be completed to accommodate RTD’s extension of light rail from Parker Road to Iliff Avenue. The project is being funding by CDOT and RTD and is scheduled to be complete by the end of September 2014.
