US 36 Between Lyons and Estes Park Closed for Blasting and Material Removal
BOULDER, LARIMER COUNTIES — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), the Federal Highway Administration – Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD), and contractor American Civil Constructors, Inc. have closed US 36 to all traffic at mile post 17.6 in order to blast apart the large boulders that are currently blocking the road and remove the pieces from the roadway. Last night, crews established a path around the boulders and directed all motorists through the area via pilot car. The escorts have been paused during the blasting and material cleanup, which is expected to last into the early afternoon.
Crews worked all night to maintain safety in the area, and were able to keep the highway open during this morning’s work and school commute. State Highway 7 remains the detour route between Estes Park and Lyons for those who can use it. Motorists are thanked extensively for their patience and understanding, and are reminded to drive Slow for the Cone Zone!
