US 34 closed in both directions overnight tonight near Drake

LARIMER COUNTY — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close US 34 in both directions at mile post 78 (Idlewild Lane) tonight to enable a Larimer County contractor to repair the Idlewild Bridge two miles east of Drake. The closure will begin tonight at 9 p.m. and will last until tomorrow morning at 3 a.m. During the closure, no traffic will be allowed through, as crews will be placing bridge girders over the Big Thompson River.

Alternate routes are strongly advised, including US 287 to State Highway 66 to US 36 from Loveland to Lyons into Estes Park. Work on the US 36 emergency flood reconstruction project is being coordinated with this closure on US 34, which will re-connect the Idlewild area with US 34 and also supports Larimer County’s flood recovery efforts.
