Pedestrian underpass under construction on State Highway 93 Safety Improvements Project south of Boulder

January 24, 2014 - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - Impacts to motorists should be minimal during underpass installment next week.

BOULDER COUNTY — On Wednesday, January 29, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will install the west half of the pedestrian underpass as part of the safety improvements project on State Highway (SH) 93 south of Boulder near Eldorado Springs north of the Community Ditch Trail.

Impacts to traffic should be minor, and flaggers will be stopping traffic for a few minutes at a time while trucks enter and leave the work site, which is off the traveled roadway. Work hours will last from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Motorists are encouraged to maintain constant speeds through the work zone to avoid congestion delays, as travelers may see concrete arches being lifted overhead for short periods of time.

Work is taking place on the project on SH 93 between SH 170 (Eldorado Springs Drive) and SH 128 south of Boulder. The asphalt roadway surface is being replaced throughout the project and the shoulders are being widened to improve safety for motorists and cyclists. The pedestrian underpass will allow bicycle, pedestrian and equestrian traffic to cross under SH 93 and avoid vehicles traveling on SH 93.

Travelers can expect to see work taking place on the project Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Delays of 10 minutes can be expected throughout the duration of the project, and the speed limit has been reduced through the area. Motorists are urged to drive Slow for the Cone Zone!

Hamon Contractors is the contractor for this $4.6 million project. The city of Boulder contributed $1.1 million for the project, and the remaining balance will be split between CDOT and Boulder County.
