Northwestern Colorado Storm Update

Patrols are currently focused throughout the region as snowfall is expected to continue through Sunday. Several closures on the I-70 corridor have already occurred today due to the adverse weather conditions including snow packed and icy roads and blowing snow.

Mountain passes such as Vail Pass (I-70 corridor) and Straight Creek (I-70 corridor Silverthorne to the Eisenhower tunnel) are expected to receive roughly 10 inches of snow throughout the weekend.  McClure Pass (SH 133) could see around 8 inches of new snow. The area surrounding the Grand Mesa (SH 65) is expected to receive around 6 inches of snow and Grand Junction could get about 2 to 4 inches.

Throughout the region, icy conditions should be expected due to freezing temperatures and travelers should plan for winter driving conditions. Motorists are advised that bridges, overpasses and ramps will freeze first and should remember “Ice and Snow, Take It Slow.”
