I-25 Pothole Repairs May Impact Daytime Traffic in Expansion Work Zone
Colorado Springs – Temperature fluctuations, moisture and highway traffic are all contributing to the occasional appearance of potholes along the Interstate 25 expansion project. Crews are making every effort to patch potholes as they occur, but it will remain an ongoing effort until tempertures are warm enough to allow final paving.
Drivers may encounter dual lane closures during the day over the next few months on northbound and southbound I-25 so crews can grind uneven surfaces and fill potholes between Woodmen Road and State Highway 105 in Monument. Closures will occur, as needed, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The posted 65 mph speed limit remains through the work zone, with the possibility of a lower limit in active project areas, particularly when capacity is reduced to one lane. While work is not as widespread now as it was earlier in the project, crews remain close to traffic as guardrail, signs and lights are being installed along the corridor. Those single-lane closures will take place Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Drivers are reminded that the current road surface is temporary. Final pavement will be applied this spring and summer when temperatures are warmer.
Construction to add the third lane southbound from Monument to North Gate Boulevard resumes when warmer temperatures return in April. Nighttime closures, while less frequent, will continue along short segments as work continues through the winter.
All work is subject to road and weather conditions.
