Traffic Advisory - Northeast Colorado Storm Update

December 3, 2013 - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - Maintenance crews from the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT’s) northeast region of the state are now on 12 hour snow shifts in the Boulder, Fort Collins, Fort Morgan, Estes Park, Greeley, Julesburg, Longmont, Loveland, and Sterling areas.

The snow shifts will last 24 hours a day until the storm passes. Crews are working in shifts from midnight to noon, and noon to midnight. Highways were washed out during the September flooding, especially those that underwent temporary repair, will be monitored carefully and often, as the areas surrounding the highways have yet to receive significant precipitation since the flooding and ground may shift throughout this storm.

Areas in the mountains, including Boulder, Estes Park, Nederland, and Raymond are expected to receive roughly 24 inches of snow throughout the storm, although to this point less than an inch has fallen. The area surrounding Ward is expected to receive the most snow with between 24 and 33 inches of precipitation expected to fall. The central I-25 corridor including Fort Collins, Loveland, and Greeley is expected to receive between 12 and 24 inches of snow. The Eastern Plains is more likely to receive less than six inches of snow, but high winds could create visibility issues.

Throughout the region, icy conditions should be expected due to below-freezing temperatures and travelers should plan for winter driving conditions. Motorists are advised that bridges, overpasses and ramps will freeze first and should remember “Ice and Snow, Take It Slow.”
