Preventative rockfall work today, possibly Friday on US 160 west of Durango

December 19, 2013 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - DURANGO - Colorado Department of Transportation rockfall contractor Yenter Companies Inc. will work to bring a rock down above US 160 near mile marker 78, just west of town (west of Wildcat Canyon Road).

Work involves proactively bringing down a rock overhang with the use of a pry bar or possibly airbags inserted and then inflated behind the rock. Rock material will be further broken down on the roadway if necessary and hauled away.

TRAVEL IMPACTS – Thursday (December 19) and possibly Friday, westbound travelers will encounter some single lane traffic and delays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. BOTH directions of traffic will be fully stopped for a period of 20 minutes or more, possibly several times during the day. This is to enable crews to safely bring rock down and move it from the highway.
