Major Construction Wrapping up at Belleview and University

December 6, 2013 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - North and Southbound Turn Lanes to Close for Two Weeks to Accelerate Construction.

STATEWIDE— Starting Sunday, December 8, for two weeks, weather permitting, the Colorado Department of Transportation will complete major construction at Belleview Avenue and University Boulevard.  As a result, motorists can expect various lane closures and turn restrictions 24 hours a day through reconstruction and major delays are expected.

The project began in June 2013 and the final push will complete the major project work on schedule. “Completing all major construction on this project in the next two weeks is the most efficient way to avoid major disruptions in work, now that winter weather has set in,” said Anthony DeVito, Region 1 Transportation Director at CDOT. “Two weeks is an aggressive timeline to get this work finished but the improvements made to this intersection were necessary to motorists. With major construction complete, we will have pushed to get traffic into its final configuration for the remainder of the winter.”

Starting Sunday, December 8 at 10 a.m., CDOT will close the left turn lanes from University Boulevard to eastbound and westbound Belleview Avenue. This work is necessary in order to complete work on the center part of the intersection.  The turn lanes will remain closed for two weeks, until the completion of major construction at this intersection. Construction crews may also fully close northbound University Boulevard to expedite remaining work if necessary. All major construction is scheduled to be completed by December 24, 2013.

Jalisco International, Inc. is the contractor for this $2.5 million intersection reconstruction project which is scheduled to be complete in late 2013 or early 2014, weather permitting. The intersection was originally constructed in 1988 and was showing signs of severe distress including joint separation and cracks in the concrete. This project will improve the driving surface, reducing the wear and tear on vehicles as well as vehicle maintenance costs.
